Use of Salvage Wood for Reconstruction in Earthquake Affected Sites of Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir

The earthquake had hit Muzaffarabad on October 8, 2005. Being one of the dreadful events, it badly devastated the area. In addition, the post earthquake scenario raised fears of pressure on forestry resources, especially for reconstruction phase. It was, therefore, essential to assess the availability of salvage wood to prevent/or reduce the pressure on forestry resources. Thus, the study was launched with an aim to assess the availability of salvage wood in damaged buildings. It was revealing that significant amount of salvage wood was available in the damaged buildings that could be utilized in the reconstruction phase.
